The Memorial Dedication Event
The Dedication event for the LGBT+ Armed Forces Community Memorial took place in front of 90 Veterans, 90 Serving Personnel and 100 invited guests and VIPs, many of whom were also Veterans impacted by the ban or engaged in the campaign to lift it and to deliver reparations to those impacted.
The invited guests included the 3 founders of FWP, Caroline Paige MBE, Craig Jones MBE and Patrick Lyster-Todd, without whom none of this would have been possible. The charity they created making the reparations, including the memorial, possible from their campaigning and the recommendations they made to Lord Etherton for his review.
Included in that group of invited guests were Elaine Swyfte (Chambers) and Robert Ely from Rank Outsiders, the organisation that initially helped those dismissed and discharged in the late 90s. Also was Ed Hall, organiser of the Armed Forces Legal Challenge (And current chair of FWP board) and the 4 test cases that went to the European Court of Human Rights; Jeanette Russell (Smith), Graeme Grady, John Beckett & Duncan Lustig-Prean.
